At Childnet, young people’s voice is at the centre of everything we do, and nowhere is this more apparent than the Childnet Film Competition. In this competition we saw young people from across the globe create impactful short films to help educate their peers about online safety, and I am delighted to be able to introduce you to the winners of the Childnet Film Competition: International!

For 2024, we invited young people from all over the world to enter the competition by submitting a short film on this year’s theme: ‘How would you make the internet a better place?’

    Meet the winners

With such a high standard of entries this year, our international judging panel of young people had the difficult task of picking the winners.

This is an amazing testament to our winner, the Canadian International School Astana in Kazakhstan, whose film ‘How Can We Make The Internet a Better Place?’ came in first place. Their film covered a variety of online risks, and also included key advice which they delivered at the end in a brilliant rap.

In Second Place is Mathayom Watmai Krongthong School in Thailand, and their film ‘We can make the internet a better place’.

The following schools’ brilliant films were also shortlisted in the 2024 competition:

    • Mavoko Junior Secondary School
    • Tritunggal Christian School
    • West Island School
    • Canadian International School Astana
    • Regional Secondary School of Livadia
    • Gymnasium Xylotimpou

These great films are an invaluable tool for educating young people about online safety, and can all be viewed here: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPbjR5qe6oh-9jskyZZqzDRu69tnADzMI

Competition was tough this year, and we saw some amazing entries come in from schools all across the globe, including Thailand, Kazakhstan, Australia, India, Cyprus, UAE, Hong Kong, Nigeria, Indonesia, Kenya, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Bangladesh.

The history of the Childnet Film Competition: International

We started the Childnet Film Competition: International in 2021, to provide a platform for young filmmakers aged 7-18 from all over the world to tell their story and to become part of important conversations around online safety.

The international category is part of our hugely successful Childnet Film Competition, which has been encouraging young people to embrace creativity for the last 15 years. The winners of the Film Competition were announced in June 2024, and can be found here: childnet.com/film/winners
