In this Industry Spotlight with Creative First, Prithul Kumar Joint Secretary (Broadcasting-II), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Managing Director, National Film Development Corporation, joined Lohita Sujith, Sr. Director, Copyright & Digital Economy, Motion Picture Association for a discussion regarding the achievements and new developments of Film Bazaar, which celebrates its 18th edition this year. Established in 2007 alongside the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), the event evolved into a significant platform for South Asian cinema. Prithul noted that this year’s Film Bazaar introduced series-focused co-productions for the first time, reflecting the growing importance of OTT platforms and serialized content.
Prithul also spoke about the partnership with FICCI on the open buyer-seller meet that allows a larger number of sellers to meet buyers not just from India but from across the world.
He emphasized that there will be a record-breaking 300+ curated projects showcased, ranging from early-stage scripts to works-in-progress. He also shared that young filmmakers will take center stage, supported by expanded mentoring programs and a strong focus on debut talent. Prithul also highlighted the growth of the tech pavilion, which will feature advancements in AI, VFX, and cutting-edge filmmaking tools from major companies like Google and Sony. Netflix too will have a voiceover booth to highlight the importance of dubbing.
Additionally, he said attendees can look forward to open buyer-seller meets that will create opportunities for unselected projects to connect with potential partners. The event will take place at the redesigned venue along Goa’s Mandovi River promenade, offering an enhanced space for networking and knowledge-sharing. Prithul reflected on the increased film incentives and the event’s growing role as a hub for global collaborations, reinforcing its legacy as a transformative platform for South Asian cinema.
Prithul comes from the 2000 batch of Indian Railway Traffic Service, a prestigious Group A civil service cadre of the Central Government. Previously he was the Joint Secretary (Films) at the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Executive Director, Computerization and Information Systems at the Railway Board.
