India is positioned to become a prominent hub for high-quality, cost-effective content development. Our country has a lot of talent, ranging from compelling actors and directors to competent technicians and animation professionals. World-class pre and post-production facilities, together with our back-office operational competence and solid networking infrastructure, form a formidable ecosystem that will catapult the India’s Media & Entertainment (M&E) sector to the world stage.

World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit, known by the acronym WAVES, will be a key forum for promoting discussions, collaboration, and innovation in the M&E industry. The event will bring together industry leaders, stakeholders, and innovators to discuss prospects, challenges, promote trade to India, and influence the sector’s future.

Key Highlights of MPA at WAVES 2025

Charles Rivkin, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association (MPA) speaks at the launch of the Economic Contribution Report 2025.

India is rapidly emerging as a global hub for film, television, and streaming. A 2019 Deloitte report showed that the screen sector contributed USD 33.3 billion (INR 216,677 crore) to the economy and supported 2.36 million jobs. On May 3, the MPA, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and JioStar launched a new report, offering fresh data and insights on India’s expanding role in the global media industry.

At WAVES 2025, following the India ECR launch, a panel moderated by MPA APAC President Urmila Venugopalan featured executives from The Walt Disney Company, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and JioStar. They discussed key findings from the new Deloitte report, focusing on India’s growing role in the global screen sector, strategic investments, and opportunities for collaboration in the evolving media landscape.

In today’s digital era, piracy networks operate across borders, presenting significant challenges for rights holders in protecting their content. This panel brought together global rights holders to discuss effective content protection strategies and explore opportunities for collaboration. Panelists shared insights on navigating the complexities of copyright enforcement, with a focus on the Asia Pacific region.
