In this episode of Industry Spotlight by Creative First, actor and co-founder of Prismix Studios, Vatsal Sheth, joined Lohita Sujith, Sr. Director, Copyright & Digital Economy, Motion Picture Association, to discuss his journey into AI-driven filmmaking and the role emerging technologies are playing in reshaping content creation.

Vatsal reflected on the origins of Prismix Studios, which grew from his interest in technology and early experimentation with AI alongside co-founder Sahil. Recognizing its potential for filmmaking, they developed the vision for the studio with the support of actor and filmmaker Ajay Devgn. He highlighted the release of their AI-powered short film, Happy Birthday Joshi, as an important milestone in that journey.

Discussing the film, Vatsal explained that it was based on a story he had been developing for years but had struggled to finance through conventional routes. AI-enabled tools ultimately made the project possible, demonstrating how technology can help bring ambitious ideas to life when traditional production pathways are unavailable.

A key theme of the conversation was the relationship between AI and storytelling. Vatsal emphasized that while AI is often associated with visual spectacle, its real value lies in enabling emotionally engaging narratives. Audience responses to Happy Birthday Joshi, he noted, reinforced the idea that compelling stories remain more important than the technology used to create them.

He also addressed the practical realities of AI-assisted filmmaking, stressing the importance of responsible adoption, licensed tools, and compliance processes. Despite advances in technology, he underscored that successful projects still rely on writers, actors, editors, composers, directors, and other creative professionals working collaboratively.

Looking ahead, Vatsal encouraged creators to view AI as a tool that expands access and creative possibilities rather than replacing human talent. While acknowledging concerns around employment, he argued that AI can help unlock projects that might otherwise never be produced, creating new opportunities for storytellers and creative teams alike.

Concluding the discussion, Vatsal emphasized that the future of filmmaking lies in combining technological innovation with strong storytelling, ensuring that human experiences and emotional connection remain at the center of the creative process.
