A Parliamentary Standing Committee has recommended that the Union government examine the feasibility of a comprehensive law to regulate AI. This comes despite the IT ministry’s averment that existing laws, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, and newly introduced three-hour deepfake removal rules, are sufficient to protect users from the misuse of AI.
